Tandem American Eatery is Now Serving Brunch (MENU)

May 9, 20252 min read

Over on the east side, Tandem American Eatery is now flipping pancakes and pouring mimosas three days a week at 8864 E. Tanque Verde Rd.

You can catch their brunch menu every Thursday to Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. However, Tandem will be open on Sunday, May 11 for Mother’s Day for a special brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tandem’s new brunch menu hits that sweet spot between classic comfort and something a little extra.

The Florentine omelet keeps it cool with wild mushrooms, spinach, Havarti, and a handful of herbs, while the all-American breakfast delivers the goods — two eggs, crispy bacon, toast, and fresh tomatoes. And if you’ve got room, their thick-cut pancakes or croissant French toast are basically dessert in disguise.

Also, there are a few boozy and bubbly on the brunch menu.

The Orange Dreamy Martini is basically a creamsicle for grown-ups, and the Pineapple Poblano Margarita adds a little zip to your morning with its five-spice-covered rim. For the zero-proof crowd, their housemade cream sodas and flavored lemonades bring just as much fun without the buzz.

“Even if you don’t support us, go somewhere that the money stays in town,” he said. “You don’t have to go to a chain. You can get great food from Tucsonans who are going to live here and raise their families in the community.”

Plans for growth are simmering.

“We’re working on adding a patio,” said Patrick. “We want to find something that’ll fit the concept on the other side of town.”

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

@Casaveratucson opens Aug. 12 at 7265 N. La Cholla Blvd., bringing regional Mexican cuisine to the former Tamarind space.

The 7,000-square-foot restaurant seats 200 guests with a large patio, and the design draws inspiration from a warm, old-world hacienda. The family behind Casa Vera is also known locally for Guadalajara Original Grill.

The menu highlights flavors and techniques from across Mexico, with tableside salsa service, shareable starters like the Hacienda Board and Scallop Mini Tostadas, plus entrées including Lobster Tetelas and Hojaldrado, a beef picadillo-stuffed poblano inspired by chile en nogada.

Casa Vera will be open daily from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Reservations are available through @opentable or by emailing reservations@casaveratucson.com.
