#WeeklyDish (No. 7): Steak Frites at 47 Scott

Mar 30, 20171 min read

Steak and potatoes might make you automatically shout out ‘MERICA in joy, but the French version is also pure pleasure.

The steak frites ($24) at 47 Scott is a bistro classic that eats like a reward. A premium angus bistro filet is topped with herbed butter and served with pommes frites (French fries) and red pepper aioli.

While the house cut of beef has changed throughout the years, the quality has never diminished. The current bistro filet looks like a filet mignon and is still remarkably tender, but has beefier flavor without breaking the bank. The house herbs and pat of whipped butter provides a lush mouthfeel.

Kennebec potatoes gained popularity through In-N-Out Burger, but they fry potatoes immediately after cutting. While that sounds like quality through freshness, the result isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. 47 Scott knows better — they blanch the frites before the frying process, which helps provide both a creamy interior and satisfying crunch. Their choice of peanut oil is another major player in their beautiful fries.

Finally, red pepper aioli is the fry dip of choice. You’ll quickly forget about sugary ketchup once you taste the garlic and pepper richness of the aioli.

While a glass of Argentinian Malbec ($8) is a classic pairing for steak, considering trying out 47 Scott’s Brick House Old Fashioned ($9). Bacon-washed rye whiskey, demerara syrup, and Angostura bitters combine for an adult’s drink that could be considered one of the fathers of craft cocktail in Tucson.

47 Scott is located at 47 N. Scott Ave. and can be reached at (520) 624-4747. For more information, visit 47scott.com.
