If there’s a more perfect way to eat Indian food in Tucson than with a live sitar player, clue me in.

Saffron Indian Bistro, the swanky-modern style Indian restaurant on North Oracle Road will feature local sitar player Tony Kuya from 6:30 – 8pm Saturday, August 9.

Kuya, who also works at Saffron as a server was encouraged by owner Mintu Sareen to give it shot.

“We tried it out on a Saturday night and people loved it,” said Sareen.

Details are still in the works but Sareen says Saffron will feature Kuya more regularly. He will also perform at the Saffron Indian Bistro booth at the 2014 SAACA Salsa & Tequila Challenge at La Encantada.

If you’re not yet an Indian food convert, or just haven’t had a chance to try Saffron, by the way, it’s highly recommended.

Opened in 2008, Saffron, along with their smaller University Avenue sister restaurant, Kababeque, offer a truly unique and delicious Indian dining experience. Classic Indian dishes such as samosas, paneers, vindaloo, and the ever popular Chicken Tikka Masala are available along with original creations such as a Fish Tikka Masala made with fresh Pacific mahi mahi, and their own Mughlai.

Saffron also features many gluten free and vegan options, a full bar, and in classic Indian restaurant style, a worthy weekday lunch buffet for $8.95.

“Many people think Indian food is very spicy, but it can range from mild all the way to spicy depending on preference,” said Sareen.

Sareen’s current favorite dish at his restaurant?

“Lamb chops. And, Saffron Mughlai.”
