How and when did you first become interested in beer?

My business partner, Chris Squires, who had been brewing at home for a bit told me how fun it was and that I would enjoy home brewing as well. So I gathered up all the equipment I’d need and set about making my first batch.

Things went well and soon I had five gallons bubbling away in my laundry room. Late one evening I heard a loud pop and discovered quite the mess in the laundry room. The high yeast activity had forced the top off the fermenting bucket and krausen (a foamy head that forms on the top of fermenting beer) was all over the place. Funny at first, but a sticky pain to clean!

Four weeks later the beer was done and I tried my first bottle. It was delicious and I was hooked. The combination of craft and science and of hard work and reward drew me in and I’ve loved making beer ever since.

What do you think you bring to the brewing game that makes you stand out?

We work hard to reflect and support this community that we live in, this city that we love and have a great example of that on tap right now.

Our Valentine is 100% Arizona ingredient pale ale over a year and a half in the making. We teamed up with BKW Farms in Marana and had malting barley grown for probably the first time in Arizona. We combined that with wild harvested hops from the White Mountains to create a very unique and special beer. A bit earthy and grassy from the wild hops, we like to think it reflects our state’s “terroir” and tastes very much like Arizona.
