The Screamery To Open Second Location In Midtown Tucson

Sweet Cream Honeycomb Ice Cream from The Screamery at Diablo Burger

The Screamery, one of Tucson’s most popular ice cream shops, is preparing to open their second location at 2545 East Speedway Boulevard.

East Tucson residents have enjoyed ice cream from the original location on Houghton Road since 2014, but the new central location intends to make the unique, homemade flavors accessible for everyone.

Screamery founders Kenny and Linda Sarnoski were inspired to create their own ice cream when they started a new diet. With a fresh focus on natural, wholesome ingredients, the couple found that they couldn’t find any ice cream that fit this criteria. To satisfy their cravings, they decided to start experimenting.

The experiments continue today, resulting in traditional flavors like Chocolate and Pistachio, as well as more unusual combinations, such as:

  • Sweet Cream HoneyComb – Sweet cream ice cream with handmade honeycomb pieces
  • Wine n’ Scream – White chocolate ice cream with hand-made dark chocolate chunks and a cherry merlot swirl
  • Sonoran Chocolate – Chocolate ice cream with steeped chili flakes

24 hand-crafted flavors will be available at this location.

As Arizona’s first ice cream pasteurizers, The Screamery makes all of their ice cream in house with milk from grass-fed cows and 100% natural ingredients.

According to Facebook, the shop anticipates opening by April. The official Grand Opening date will be shared soon.

What exactly does it mean to be the first ice cream pasteurizers? If you’re producing ice cream in Arizona it needs to be pasteurized. So in theory everyone making ice cream before they came along were pasteurizing their product. Please correct me if I’m missing something.

      Jessica,
Pasteurizing allows us to have total control over our product. In lieu of buying a premade base like 99.9% of all other shops, I chose to make it totally from scratch. In order for that to happen, we needed federally certified equipment while also being federally regulated with inspections every 3 months.
By heating up the product to 155deg for minimum 30 minutes we get to use all natural ingredients for our flavoring. Example; for our coffee base, we use fresh roasted coffee beans from savaya here in Tucson, throw them in the pasteurizer with our Milk, Cream, Egg Yolks and Sugar, pasteurize for the required time, quickly cool to 50deg and in the end you have the best tasting coffee base you’ve ever had and can do many many amazing types of ice cream with it. We chose to add butter toffee to a flavor we call coffee toffee and our other coffee base flavor is mud pie, with chocolate cookies and chocolate swirl. Everything we sell from our shops are made in house from scratch.
You should come check out our Speedway location when we open in a few weeks. I will be onsite a lot to answer questions and simply to get to know all of our new customers.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions, if you need anything else, feel free to email me anytime..
