Ah, Spring. The desert is in bloom, allergies abound, the weather is beautiful, and wedding bells are ringing.

To kick off the wedding season, Tucson Foodie in collaboration with Main & Mace Public Relations, presents ‘All Things Cake: A Cake, Cupcake & Bakery Celebration’ at Viscount Suite Hotel, Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 11am to 2pm.

The event features a competition, cake samples, champagne, coffee, a live DJ, and a cakewalk. For those unfamiliar with a cakewalk, think musical chairs with a cake prize.

Competing bakers will bake and decorate a wedding cake for a fictitious bride and groom that love the Sonoran desert and want a wedding cake to reflects this affection. Competitors will be judged on creativity, difficulty of technique, attention to theme detail, taste, uniqueness of flavor combinations, and use of local elements.

For the competition, Tucson Foodie partnered with Sonya’s Brown Sugar Bakery owner Sonya Book. Book developed the theme, criteria for cake creations, baker guidelines, judging selection, and rules.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur bakers. Professional bakers include baking instructors, cake decorators, pastry chefs, or bakers associated with a brick and mortar business while amateur bakers include home bakers and cake decorators.

All Things Cake general admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of event, and $15 if purchased by April 15. Tickets include cake samples, two glasses of champagne or mimosas and one cakewalk ticket. Children’s tickets are $7 for children over six. VIP tickets are also available for $50 and include a full service dedicated seating area, four glasses of champagne or mimosas, two cakewalk tickets, and two raffle tickets. Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the event.

A portion of the proceeds benefit Free Ever After a local nonprofit bridal resale boutique that operates under Sold No More, a 501(c)3 organization.
