Pizza with a view... and then a movie.

Italian restaurant Charred Pie quietly opened at 12125 N. Oracle Rd., Ste. 105, which previously housed Harvest Moon Chinese Cuisine.

A cousin restaurant to Harvest Restaurant, Charred Pie focuses on wood-fired pizza. House-made pastas, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and other dishes are also available.

Owner Reza Shapouri spent the past year and a half making pizzas in his backyard until he was fully confident with his recipe.

Around the time he started taking steps towards opening the restaurant, pizzaiolo Luke Smith happened to have just returned to Tucson after spending a year in Georgia. Smith is now the chef at the restaurant.

Although the restaurant has only been “soft open” a few days without advertising, word of mouth quickly spread; when we visited Monday evening, the restaurant was almost full by 6 p.m.

Located next to the Century Theatre at the Oro Valley Marketplace, the spacious patio features a glorious view of the Pusch Ridge mountains. Bar seating is also available on the patio.

The interior features modern industrial vibes with warm wood, red walls, and steel accents. The walls feature whimsical art, such as a bicycle with pizza wheels and a Mona Lisa eating a slice of pizza.

We ate our way through about a quarter of the menu and we’re confident the restaurant will do well; the Neapolitan-inspired crust is charred beautifully, the ingredients are clearly good quality, and the staff is attentive and friendly. Their Italian cocktail menu is unique — don’t miss the delightful house-made limoncello.

The restaurant is also family friendly, so it’s sure to become a dinner-and-then-movie-next-door ritual for the neighborhood.
