In 2019, Serial Grillers owners and brothers Travis and William Miller announced the opening of Toro Loco Tacos Y Burros on 7940 E. Broadway Blvd. Now they’re spreading the delicious grub across the border in Mexico.
The taco and burrito shop quietly opened its doors in Magdalena de Kino, Sonora on Wednesday, March 3.

In late 2020, the Serial Grillers brothers opened up Boulevard BBQ & Fixins — a collaborative move and team effort with David Martin of Red Desert BBQ — and their latest venture in Sonora is an exciting opportunity to test out the concept.
“A few folks have mentioned how our food isn’t authentic, but it was never intended to be,” said Travis Miller.”It is our twist on Mexican food and how it fuses with American food in the U.S. You can find birria and carne asada on most corners here, but our fusion gives them that and more.”

When it comes to making sure the new location is running smoothly, an extension of the family that lives in Mexico is looking over the restaurant and dishing out the goods.
“We were drawn to the idea of doing it in Magdalena de Kino, Sonora because there is already a level of trust,” said Miller. “We opened have seen great support and amazing feedback since opening and we chose this location as the place to expand because we have a support system.”
The crew hopes that this is only the beginning of a possible “test market” and more expansions down the road.
The new restaurant is located 5 de Mayo 302-318, La Industria, 84160 Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, Mexico. For more information, visit torolocotacos.com/mexico. In Tucson, Toro Loco is located at 7940 E. Broadway Blvd. For more information, call (520) 849-8160 or visit torolocotacos.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
