After taking some time off due to the pandemic, the urban street fair, Second Saturdays, is ready to make its grand return from 6 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
Also, as downtown takes on a new glow with new restaurants and business establishments, it’s rather fitting that the 10th Anniversary of this iconic event is coming back in style.

Second Saturdays was founded by a group of dedicated community members ten years ago. The whole purpose was to create awareness and a sense of enjoyment of all that downtown Tucson had to offer.
For those who have experienced one of these Saturdays, you’ll remember it as an opportunity to stroll and explore downtown while listening to live music, watching street performers, shopping at unique vendor booths, and, of course, the food and drinks.
The food vendors have yet to be announced but keep an eye out for any updates. Besides, downtown is lined with several local restaurants and bars so grab some bites to-go so you can enjoy the outdoor entertainment.
If it’s your first time soaking it all in, the activity area ranges from the Rialto Theatre on the east end to the Fox Tucson Theatre on the north end, with vendors and entertainers located on Congress as well as Fifth and Scott Avenue.

Plus, the main stage is located at Scott and Broadway Boulevard which will feature entertainment throughout the evening — each month will highlight a diverse mix of musical talent.
The lineup for Saturday, April 9 includes Sophia Rankin and The Sound, Los Velvets, and others on the main stage with a variety of others throughout downtown.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
