Natalia Chappotin owns and operates Chappopin Café, a café truck serving coffee, tea, espresso, and pastries. But while the business shares her name, take another look; one letter isn’t the same. In fact, she named the café after a government typo.
“It was supposed to be Chappotin, like my last name, but they took out the letter T and added a P instead, naming it Chappopin,” she said, laughing. “I decided to roll with it.”
World Travels Inspired the Menu
Before opening her truck in December 2023, Chappotin traveled through Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, and Europe. She sampled local coffees to shape her menu with global influences.
“We tried different coffees before we opened up our coffee shop because we wanted to make our truck different with different cultures,” she said.
Furthermore, her family inspired her.
“After every meal, gathering, BBQ, or holiday, we would celebrate with coffee and pastries,” she said.
Built for Community Connection
Chappotin created more than a business. She built a space for connection. “We bring a big community together,” she said. “We’re trying to create a good environment and a great space for everyone.”
She often partners with local vendors and hosts community events, regularly listed on the business Instagram page. Her Latin heritage also drives her to create a welcoming space for all.
“When you talk with others about life, you realize how special you are and how hard you’ve worked,” she said.
Multicultural Menu and Local Collaborations
The café offers drinks such as café de olla, horchata, lemonade, and teas. Specialty lattes and vegan pastries rotate in and out, each made by local bakers. Customers can choose from cookies, brownies, and muffins.
During my visit, I tried the café de olla, a traditional Mexican coffee sweetened with piloncillo (a type of unrefined sugar) and spiced with warm, aromatic cinnamon. I paired it with a pistachio muffin from Sandy’s Tiny Treats, which featured a sugary topping and crunch from the pistachios.
