Modern New American restaurant Miramonte opens at 3352 E. Speedway Blvd. on Thursday, Sept. 18. It brings a hip mid-century modern vibe to Midtown Tucson with a late night menu. Co-founded by local restaurateur Deborah Tenino, the restaurant aims to combine nostalgia with a modern twist in both its menu and atmosphere.

Serving Midtown’s diverse community

Tenino emphasized the team’s commitment to serving the diverse Midtown Tucson community. The restaurant is situated in a central area that haos seen growth and revitalization, and the Miramonte team is intent on being part of that positive momentum.

“I think the thing that’s so unique about this restaurant is that we feel so strongly about Midtown and there’s so many diverse people and things and this restaurant kind of fits that,” Tenino said.

By offering broad appeal, ranging from familiar burgers to refined entrées, Miramonte aims to be a gathering place for neighbors, families, students, and visitors alike.

Modern American concept

Miramonte focuses on back-to-basics American comfort food served with modern flair. The menu features classic favorites made in house, including burgers, hearty salads, crispy onion rings, cornbread, pickled vegetables, and pies.

Tenino said the goal is to offer familiar dishes that add to the Midtown area, filling a niche that she feels has been missing.

Classic favorites and specialty dishes

In addition to the classics, Miramonte’s menu highlights several specialty dishes.

Brick chicken, a whole chicken partially deboned and pressed flat for even grilling, delivers juicy meat with crispy skin. A simple grilled fish with lemon and beurre blanc showcases seasonal seafood with a light, elegant touch. The steak and noodle salad, made with glass noodles, offers an Asian-inspired twist on a hearty salad. House-pickled vegetable relishes accompany many plates, providing a tangy counterpoint to rich flavors.

The dedicated seafood menu offers a range of fresh oysters on the half shell, clams, shrimp, scallops, and California white sturgeon caviar.

For dessert, the signature Marianne’s Key Lime Pie leads a lineup of house-baked pies.

Late-night bites for Midtown

Miramonte plans to serve the neighborhood well into the evening. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with a special late-night menu available from 9 p.m. to closing. Late-night diners can look forward to elevated bites like a creamy five onion dip with house-made chips and chilled jumbo shrimp cocktail. More substantial midnight cravings are covered by a classic cheeseburger and comforting mac and cheese.

This extended-hour offering is designed to complement other nighttime activities in the area, such as the Loft Cinema, making Miramonte a convenient stop after an evening at nearby attractions.

Midcentury design in a historic space

Beyond the food, Miramonte’s atmosphere pays homage to the building’s midcentury roots. The interior design embraces a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the Mad Men era, complete with five martini variants on the menu. A centerpiece bar wrapped in teak wood anchors the space and reinforces the midcentury modern vibe. The restaurant encompasses 5,500 square feet of dining area, providing plenty of room for guests to spread out in booths and at the bar.

The location itself comes with a rich Tucson history. The building previously housed beloved local restaurants Presidio Grill and Cuvée World Bistro. Longtime Tucson residents may also recall when the corner spot was a drug store and soda shop. Miramonte nods to this past while giving the site a stylish new life as a dining destination.
