You can have your cake and eat it first.

Charitable and self-indulgent event Eat Dessert First Day is taking place on Friday, April 21.

To participate eat dessert first for lunch or dinner at one of the following restaurants while celebrating the presence of family and friends in your life:

A portion of proceeds from dessert sales will be donated to the UA Steele Children’s Research Center. Since the first Eat Dessert First Day two years ago, $15,000 was raised for the research center. The event hopes to each the same goal this year.

Eat Dessert First Day began in 2015 in honor of Dana Morgan, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of four. The day honors Dana’s enthusiasm for life, her appreciation for the fun from doing the unexpected, and the importance she placed on spending time with family and friends.

If you’re unable to visit one of the restaurants above but would still like to make a contribution, visit crowdfund.arizona.edu.

Tucson’s barbecue options range from food trucks to full-service dining rooms. Some focus on classic Texas-style plates with butcher paper and simple sides. Others experiment with fusion dishes that blend barbecue with Mexican and Southwestern flavors. This variety gives diners plenty of options, whether they want a quick lunch or a sit-down meal.
