Heavenly ice cream sandwiches to try this summer

Heavenly ice cream sandwiches to try this summer

Aug 22, 20192 min read

Have you had a sandwich for dessert?

If you finished a meal with a ham and cheese sandwich, that’s fine, but we’re talking about ice cream sandwiches here. The summertime favorite needs no spoon; hands will do. Just make sure to eat it quickly so that it doesn’t melt all over you.

Here’s our list of go-to ice cream sandwiches in Tucson.

HUB Ice Cream Factory

245 E. Congress St.

HUB features both house-baked cookies and house-made ice cream. With flavors for both rotating, you can pick your flavors for each for a custom ice cream sandwich concoction. Additionally, you can pick up a ready-made one from the freezer to take on the go.

For more information, visit hubicecream.com.

Insomnia Cookies

345 E. Congress St. Ste. 145

This national cookie chain delivers their Cookiewich until 3 a.m. daily. While they assembled when eating at the bakery, the ice cream and cookies are separated for deliveries to help maintain structural integrity.

Isabella’s Ice Cream

Various locations

Local ice cream maker Isabella’s Ice Cream distributes their ice cream sandwiches to a handful of restaurants around town. At the moment, you can find them at American Eat Co., the concession stand at The Loft Cinema, and at Bear Canyon Pizza.

For more information, visit isabellasicecream.com.

Rollies Mexican Patio

4573 S. 12th Ave.

Rollies takes a Mexican route with their Concha Ice Cream Sandwich, which is topped with whipped cream, dulce de leche, and nuts.

Honorable Mentions

Elixir Ice Cream

Various locations

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt403vgBgDm/

Local THC-infused edibles company Elixir Ice Cream offers snickerdoodle ice cream sandwiches with a 150 mg dose of THC and chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches with a 70 mg dose of THC.

Only patients with medical cannabis cards can purchase Elixir Ice Cream products. The ice cream is on sale at dispensaries Green Med Wellness Center and Purple Med Healing Center.  Additionally, delivery is available via Hermes Delivery Service at (520) 881-0250.

Keep up with Elixir Ice Cream on Instagram. For more information, email info@elixiricecream.com.

Monsoon Chocolate

234 E. 22nd St.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnMVgEwD0cG/

Yes, calling a taco a sandwich is absurd. In the context of ice cream, it’s fair game. Plus, if you turn a taco sideways, it becomes a sandwich.

Anyways, Monsoon Chocolate’s Chocotaco features a waffle taco shell filled with frozen salted sweet corn custard, dipped in chocolate, and sprinkled with toasted pecans.

Frozen custard isn’t technically ice cream, but it’s close enough in this case. Carry on.

@Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy after 4 pm, bringing cocktails, tapas, disco lights, and a lively bar atmosphere to the same space. The dual concept comes from the team behind Talega Coffee Co., with coffee and scratch-made breakfast and lunch served during the day, followed by happy hour and bar service at night.

Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
