This Week at the Farmers Market: Okra, Meyer Lemonade, Basil & Tomatoes

Hold on to the last of the fleeting summer months by visiting the local markets and celebrating the fresh produce only available in the warm weather and heavy rain season. Get to market early to grab the best fruit and vegetables. Don’t forget to bring your own tote bag and drink lots of water.

Community Food Bank Farmers Markets

The Community Food Bank hosts a project to cultivate the next crop of farmers market vendors in local elementary schools. The Farm to Child program works with children, parents and teachers to provide training on composting, hen raising, and aquaponics to support container and in-ground gardening. This partnership inspires future generations of healthy eaters, farmers and food justice advocates to improve the community and help to make one that is hunger-free.

Santa Cruz River Farmers Market

  • High Energy Agriculture brings a variety of summer squash, including zucchini, magda, cocozelle, and yellow crookneck. Also, check out the several kinds of probiotic fermented veggies.

Heirloom Farmers Markets is honoring the taste of summer this week with the Tomato Basil Festival on Saturday in Oro Valley and Sunday at Rillito Park.   • Sunset Cove Growers makes their own salad blends using local, organic and fresh produce. Create a delicious salad, starting with the most important green leafy part at this vendor’s stand.
Trail Dust Town (6541 E. Tanque Verde Road) – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Southwest Bee Supply is known for its all natural Arizona Mesquite Honey and Desert Wildflower Honey. With over 100 honeybee colonies on properties across Southern Arizona, don’t stop at a simple honey jar. Check out the honeycomb, creamed honey, bee pollen and beekeeping supplies as well.
