Feb 2, 20222 min read

OpenTable enjoys gathering enough info about restaurants all over America, and in turn, they create massive lists for food lovers to gobble up.

Most recently — and most appropriately, being that Valentine’s Day is near — the website revealed the 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in the U.S. and Tucson’s locally-owned Vivace made the cut.

OpenTable revealed the list on Friday, January 28, sharing the following about its lovey dovey findings:

Many things come together to create a romantic dining experience—world-class cuisine, attentive (but never intrusive) service, and a unique ambiance. America’s 100 Most Romantic Restaurants 2022 showcases those spots that make it easy for diners to connect and create amazing memories. The list is determined by analyzing more than 12.4 million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners.

Have you ever taken a trip out to Vivace during one of Tucson’s glorious sunsets?

The restaurant overlooks the city and the combination of the twinkling lights at night and the delicious bites from the kitchen are enough to make anyone’s heart flutter.

Daniel Scordato’s longtime Tucson Italian food staple, Vivace Restaurant, came to fruition back in 1993, and his last name is something that’s been recognized in the Tucson food scene for decades.

The Scordato family’s roots in the restaurant business date back to 1947 in Patterson, New Jersey. After relocating to Tucson in the 1960s, Scordato’s Restaurant opened in 1972, and Daniel Scordato — just 14 years old at the time — began working in the kitchen with his father and brothers.

If you’re looking to take a road trip sometime soon, the list highlights restaurants from 34 states. Here in Arizona, the list includes Lon’s at The Hermosa (Paradise Valley), Steak 44 (Phoenix), Cafe Monarch (Scottsdale), Dominick’s Steakhouse (Scottsdale), and The Americano (Scottsdale).

Vivace is located at 6440 N. Campbell Avenue. For more information, visit vivacetucson.com. To read OpenTable’s full list, visit 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in America for 2022.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
