Timed to Celebrate Julia's 114th birthday on August 15, and mark the date of Julia Child’s passing (August 13), the five-course dinner pairs historic recipes from historic milestone birthday celebrations and events with personal, first-hand accounts from English’s life alongside the legendary culinary figure.
A native Bostonian, English grew up in the same neighborhood context as Child—crossing paths at local staples like Savenor’s Market, Captain Marden’s Seafood, and Dewar’s Meats, and trick-or-treating at Child’s Cambridge residence. Throughout her career in food broadcasting, English’s connection with Child continued, from attending the installation of her legendary kitchen at the Smithsonian, to her 90th birthday celebrations at Restaurant 1789 and the Four Seasons in Washington, D.C., to standing beside her at the grand opening of Copia in Napa Valley, where Child shared her personal household toast with English.
The evening will also feature "unvarnished" stories from English's tenure as a presenter at the James Beard Media Awards, where she presented author Julie Powell with two awards for the blog-turned-film Julie & Julia.
