Bumsted’s, located at 500 N. Fourth Ave., will close its doors permanently at the end of business on Sunday, February 12. (Or when the food runs out, whichever comes first.) World Wide Wrappers, who shares the same building and address, expects to close on either February 23 or 24.

Bumsted’s co-owner Barbara Shuman wrote on Bumsted’s Facebook page on Wednesday:

“[…] The property manager emailed us 2 weeks ago Thursday while in Minnesota for our daughter’s volleyball tournament informing us that the new landowner had decided that Lindy’s on forth would be the new tenant to occupy ours and Would Wide Wrap’s space.”

“We wish them the best of success,” said David Carroll, who handles commercial brokerage with Romano Real Estate. “We felt the property needed to go a different direction based on the history with the tenant.”

Since the businesses were operating on month-to-month leases, Romano Real Estate decided to end the leases and selected neighboring burger restaurant and bar Lindy’s on 4th, 431 N. Fourth Ave., to take over the space.

“We were approached by other tenants who weren’t in Tucson,” Carroll said. “We felt it was necessary to keep it with a local operator. Lindy’s was the best fit that showed interest in the property.”

While Bumsted’s and World Wide Wrappers will no longer be at the same address, reopening and relocation status is yet to be determined.

“We are helping to relocate World Wide Wrappers,” said Lindon Reilly, owner of Lindy’s on 4th.

Lindy’s will begin revamping the property on March 1, Reilly said. A time frame for opening won’t be available until his team is officially on the property to examine it.

The original location will move once renovations are complete. Plans for the original space afterward are yet to be determined.
