It’s no secret that I frequent taco stands a lot. And my love for taco stands only increases as I seek out them out. If you’re a taco stand fan, as well, you know that they can be, oh… quite rustic. So, why do I mention this here, in this article about Fleming’s fall filet and wine promotions? Here’s why: because while I love getting down and dirty with local, rustic, food, on the other end of the spectrum, I also love a high-end, flawless, dining experience. And I can’t speak highly enough about Fleming’s when it comes to a steakhouse.
Recently, I had the privilege of enjoying both of Fleming’s fall promos, “Filets of Fall” and “Uncorked.” Both are available now through November 22. While they’re unrelated as far as a steak and wine pairing go, they, coincidentally, do pair well. Of course, if you’re having a filet prepared correctly – as is usually the case with anything at Fleming’s – along with an impeccable selection of pinot noir, it’s unlikely you’re going to be dissatisfied.
Filets of Fall is a three course offering, including a harvest salad (arugula, hearts of romaine, toasted pistachios, herbed goat cheese, crispy prosciutto, pickled onions, croutons, dates & fig vinaigrette), a choice of one of three petite filet mignon options listed below, and sticky date pudding for dessert.
Fleming’s is also offering a plant-based option for guests that may have had to tag along with carnivorous friends: Korean Style Bulgogi Marinated Mushrooms & Onions ($45) (creamy parmesan risotto with roasted cauliflower & housemade Korean chili sauce topped with pickled vegetables).
For the record, I’m a ribeye guy. But when a filet is done right, there’s no denying how delicious it is and this was no exception. To me, it’s one of those cuts that can be enjoyed rarer than some other cuts as there’s no tendon to break down. For this visit, the filets were medium rare, plump, juicy, and just exquisite.
The salad was surprisingly delightful. I say this, not because I had low expectations from Fleming’s but, because I had low expectations of a steakhouse serving a good salad. Perfectly dressed, the pistachios offered a nice nutty texture to the small chunks of goat cheese. It was slightly date-heavy, but it was also fully consumed, so, there’s that.
For Fleming’s fall wine promo, “Uncorked,” guests can enjoy up to four different featured wines for $28-35, which are listed below.
I don’t drink wine nearly as much as I use to, but each of these wines is an excellent representation of the grape featured. I literally commented out loud with each wine how good it was. I’ve probably said this before, but when you can just enjoy a wine for it simply being delicious, and not feel inclined to speak about the “nose” or “palate,” chances are it’s because it’s so good you just don’t even care anymore.
One last thing. While the food was great, the service was exceptional. The server was timely, friendly, and knowledgable. But that’s what you get at Fleming’s – a pretty flawless experience. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a high-end steakhouse. It’s not cheap. But you get what you pay for. When you’re ready to step away from the tacos and find yourself in the mood for a different kind of decadence, give it a try. The fall promotions are an excellent excuse.
