“Drink This” is your source for the newest and freshest local beers in town. Breaking beer news about seasonal and specialty brews, one-offs, brand-new beers, and the freshest tappings of your favorite local standbys. The beers you need now, and where to get them while they’re fresh.

To celebrate its anniversary every year, the folks at Dragoon Brewing Company release a big ol’ banger of a beer. Dark, boozy, rich, and traditionally given a name en español to signify the year of its release (uno, dos, tres, etc).  However, for year 11, Dragoon abdicated this tradition by releasing a beer cleverly called Abdication. Okay, so the brew is still dark, boozy, and rich, but it was definitely given a better name than once (Spanish for eleven).

Abdication is the beer you want to drink when you celebrate a renowned Tucson brewery like Dragoon.  It just feels special.  Abdication is a roasty, chocolatey Imperial Stout aged in Willett and Four Roses bourbon barrels. 10% ABV and acts like it — one glass and you’re ready to give the anniversary speech of your life.

Love dark beer but looking for something more chill?  Try Abdication’s counterpart, Abalus, a baltic porter released on the same day as Abdication.  Abalus serves up the same toasted cocoa vibes as its brother beer but comes off much crisper and more crushable.  Without the added bourbon heat, Abalus clocks in at 7.6% ABV.

Whether you raise a glass of Abdication or Abalus, Dragoon Brewing Company is a local legend worth toasting. Happy Anniversary, Goons!

Dragoon Brewing Company is located at 1859 W. Grant Rd. #111. For more information, visit dragoonbrewing.com.
