It’s becoming a trend to see out-of-state restaurants opening their first in-state location in Tucson. I mean, our local culinary scene is one of the best so do you blame them?
The Kansas City, Missouri-based restaurant chain Chick-in Waffle has flown the coop and landed near the corner of Grant and Craycroft Road. It’s located inside the former Burger King at 5524 E. Grant Rd., sharing a nearby lot with Frida’s Cafe and across the street from Amelia’s Mexican Kitchen and The Quesadillas.

The restaurant known for its signature bubble waffles loaded with chicken is hosting its Grand Opening beginning at noon on Friday, May 19. They’ll have a live DJ, giveaways, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and plenty of chicken. Also, there’s a soft opening happening from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17 – Thursday, May 18.
“We are thrilled to bring Chick-In Waffle to Arizona,” said Dennis Alazzeh, founder and CEO of Chick-In Waffle. “We’ve always had a goal of spreading waffly good chicken across the country, and this is a great opportunity to do just that.”

The Tucson location will offer the same menu as the original locations in Kansas City, featuring a variety of dishes that are perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The menu includes chicken and waffles, wings, loaded fries, hot chicken sandwiches, and a huge ice cream dessert menu, including the Churro Ice Cream & Waffle.
They have the full menu available online.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
