Two years ago, Squared Up Pizza brought its New York-style slices to the Park Place Mall — contributing to the uncommon local food scene in a mall food court.
However, this week, Patrick McColley made the tough decision to close the pizza joint at 5870 E. Broadway Blvd. and is now seeking out a brand-new location here in Tucson.
McColley shared the news on social media, mentioning that the closure is the right thing to do to carry on the business.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we have to announce we will no longer be operating in the mall food court,” he said. “The overhead has proven to be too high for us to continue going down that path to build our brand. We love and appreciate every single one of you who has supported us along the way these first two years. As you all know the first 2 are the hardest and location is a big deal when it comes to being able to get by each month.”
Squared Up Pizza is pretty unique, too, when it comes to other pizza spots in town. They use something called a New York WaterMaker, which mimics the water coming out of the tap in New York City. Therefore, with the right filtration, it creates a splendid crust and a soft middle in bread.
“We apologize for this decision we were forced to make,” said McColley. “It’s the right decision in order to move forward rather than trying to continue and making things worse for us and our team in the long run. And to all of our employees, current and past, we appreciate every single one of you more than words can express. Please stay with us on our social media as we navigate this next chapter of our journey. We will be back!”
So, stay tuned for the new location. Where do you want to see Squared Up Pizza pop up next?
