Al Basha Grocery at 4145 E. Grant Rd. — a Middle Eastern and African foods store that also serves halal and kosher meats — just upped the experience by opening its brand-new Al Basha Grill.
The new food truck is permanently parked behind the grocery store, and they’ve done a great job making it feel like a proper spot to hang out. They’ve even built a tent structure that connects to the store — stringing it up with lights and adding some greenery for a cozy vibe that keeps you covered.
You can get there either through the back door of the grocery store or head straight to the truck along the right side of the building. Once you order at the window, you can grab a seat or do what I did — wander around the store while waiting for your food.
They do most of the cooking in the truck, but there’s also a setup behind it with barbecue pits and smokers going strong.
The food is solid! The hummus was smooth, and the falafel was spot on, but the Shish Tawook stole the show. It’s a smoked chicken dish served over perfectly cooked long-grain rice that has this warm, spiced flavor — maybe cardamom. The chicken was tender, the rice was incredible, and I’ll definitely be back for more of that.
Al Basha Grill is currently open daily from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
The grocery store, open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily, has been around since 2019. As mentioned earlier, they offer halal and kosher meats but you’ll also find a selection of teas, spices, frozen foods, and ingredients you won’t find in “big box” grocery stores.
Al Basha Grocery and Grill are both located at 4145 E. Grant Rd. For more information, call (520) 849-5900 and follow Al Basha Grill on Facebook.
