Transit Tea’s black & peppermint tea-based Merry Mint Mocha is pure holiday bliss

The substitution of teas for coffee make for a surprisingly delightful twist on a classic holiday beverage.

You’d think that in the prestigious position a food writer finds him or herself in, delectable, delicious tidbits and morsels endlessly appear. Maybe that’s the case for some, but not for this one.

It’s not that I’m often sampling items that are bad, either. But it’s rare that I taste something that is worlds different than from what I’m accustomed to it tasting like. Transit Tea’s new Merry Mint Mocha does just that, however.

It’s a concoction of black and peppermint tea, chocolate, and mint syrup (don’t knock the syrup – they all do this). And it’s close-your-eyes-and-let-out-a-breath-of delight tasty.

Most of us, by now have had a cafe mocha from someplace. And some of those same people have also had a mint mocha. Don’t get me wrong – chocolate, mint, and coffee combine beautifully. But so does chocolate, mint and black and peppermint tea. It’s such a different tasting experience with the taste of black tea on the back of the tongue instead of coffee. It’s like discovering a room in your house you never knew existed… like… wait, you can do this? With tea?

I wanted to make sure that it was mostly the raw ingredients instead of the syrup imparting the mint mocha flavor, so I reached out to Transit Tea Brand Manager Kristin Brakke.

“The mint flavor is mostly from the tea,” said Brakke. “The syrup just adds a little kick. Like a soft kick.”

The Merry Mint Mocha is available from Transit Tea in small, medium, and large sizes for $4, $5, and $6, respectively. It’s available hot or iced.

In addition to the Merry Mint Mocha, Transit is offering a second holiday drink: Yuletide Punch. This one’s made with yerba mate, hibiscus and cinnamon teas with cranberry juice, ginger and lemon. Also available hot or iced.
