On Sunday, May 1, El Charro Café’s yearlong 100th-anniversary celebration kicks it up a notch with an exclusive bottle of tequila found at all Si Charro! restaurants.
The launch of the private label Codigo 1530 Rosa Reposado is a special project whose investors include the King of Country himself, George Strait. On the new release you’ll notice the nifty bottle has the “El Charro Café 100th Anniversary” logo, too.
To make the bottle even more exclusive, this edition of Rosa Reposado is only going to be available at Si Charro! restaurants by the shot ($15 each or two for $22) and by the bottle at The Monica and Charro Steak & Del Rey for $100.
“We considered a lot of products before we found the perfect brand to help us commemorate our 100th Anniversary,” said Ray Flores, Si Charro CEO. “It was important to us to have a partner whose commitment to excellence matched ours.”
Made in the town of Amatitan in the valley region of Jalisco, Codigo 1530 is aged in white oak Napa Valley Cabernet wine barrels which gives the tequila its beautiful pink hues and snazzy balance of sweetness. On top of that, it’s roasted agave and includes subtle notes of red fruit.
“This will be the only Rosa Reposado in Tucson — I think our guests will be as thrilled as we are,” said Flores.
The Si Charro! Margarita of the Century competition will also launch this month, giving the public an opportunity to create a signature margarita, win a place on the El Charro cocktail menu, and a bottle of the new Codigo 1530.
Also, back in February of this year, the restaurant group added a new beer to the menu, which is a collaboration with Dragoon Brewing Company — the Cerveza of the Century.
The beer, which was made using Centennial Hops and mesquite-smoked malt, is on tap at all El Charro Cafe restaurants. Dragoon Brewing’s head brewer, Eric Green, is pumped with both the outcome of the beer and for being a part of the 100-year celebration.
“Our Sonoran Amber is approachable and drinks pretty easy but packs a punch (it weighs in at 7% ABV),” said Green. “It leans towards the malty side, with hints of brown sugar, caramel, and dried fruit on the nose, all balanced by roasted malt, a touch of smoke, and bright Centennial hops. I particularly love it with charro beans and a quesadilla.”
