Tucson’s first cider house hits five years

Bawker Bawker Cider House opened in August 2020 as Tucson’s first craft cider taproom. Co-owners Don Rubino and Jaimie Perkunas launched their cider house on Fourth Avenue amid pandemic restrictions, initially offering to-go service and a lineup of house-made ciders.

“Opening during a pandemic definitely expanded our comfort zone,” co-owner Jaimie Perkunas said of starting the business in 2020. Despite the challenges, the Fourth Avenue community embraced the new local spot, helping the cidery thrive.

In its first year, the Bawker Bawker team released a new cider nearly every week, totaling over 60 unique cider flavors by the end of year one. That innovative spirit continues five years later with an ever-rotating tap list that keeps cider fans coming back. For instance, Bawker Bawker hosts weekly Team Trivia on Wednesdays, along with drag queen bingo nights, spelling bee contests, and T-shirt tie-dye parties to engage the community year-round.

Now, Bawker Bawker Cider House is toasting five successful years by inviting Tucsonans to join in the anniversary fun. From casual cider sippers to devoted regulars, everyone is welcome to raise a glass and enjoy the festivities in honor of this local cidery’s milestone.

Bawker Bawker Cider House is located at 400 N. Fourth Ave.

Tucson’s barbecue options range from food trucks to full-service dining rooms. Some focus on classic Texas-style plates with butcher paper and simple sides. Others experiment with fusion dishes that blend barbecue with Mexican and Southwestern flavors. This variety gives diners plenty of options, whether they want a quick lunch or a sit-down meal.
