Quinta do Vallado dinner with Greta Arendsen

About

Those of us who’ve been in- or peripheral to- the wine biz in Tucson for a spell remember a charming and knowledgeable sort named Greta Arendsen, who used to sling wine down here before becoming a mom, moving to cooler climes and now jetsetting around four states to extol the virtues of the wines in importer Quintessential’s portfolio.  We’ve missed her around here, but as luck would have it, Arizona is back in her orbit, and she’ll be joining us on Thursday, May 7th, to talk about the wines of Quinta do Vallado.  We’ve been  pouring their wines since Feast was teeny tiny, and Greta’s given us the excuse to bring in four of them, and to write a menu that highlights what we find enchanting about the wines.

Dinner begins at 6 pm on the 7th, and we’d love to have you join us.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
