Oro Valley residents have a new place to hang their hats for pizza and beer. Zpizza, a Laguna Beach based franchise, is now offering oven baked pies and the franchise’s first self-serve beer wall with over 10 local craft brews.

Located at 11165 N. La Cañada Drive and owned by local resident Rob Curcio, the new zpizza is the first of its franchised locations to feature the DIY tap room. Guests obtain special wristbands at the fast casual pizza restaurant’s counter which are used to activate the tap, as well as track how much beer is poured. To celebrate, zpizza is inviting the public to stop by Tuesday, March 10 for $1 slices and to try out the wristband experience.

Zpizza, with locations in 14 states and 3 countries, began in 1986 in Laguna Beach, California. The latest Oro Valley location is the third shop to open in Arizona. New to the OV location, however, is the introduction of its self-serve beer wall.

Curcio, who was raised in a family of pizza makers, understands that pizza comes down to the details. Zpizza uses non-GMO flour and fresh ingredients in their pies. Standout pizzas include (all are available gluten-free by request):

  • zCarnivore – Housemade marinara, pepperoni, ham, fennel sausage, smoked bacon, and oregano
  • Tuscan Mushroom – Thyme, truffle oil, feta cheese, caramelized onions, roasted garlic sauce, mozzarella, and mushrooms
  • Berkeley Vegan (GF) – Marinara sauce, vegan Daiya cheese, veggie burger crumbles, zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onions, and bell peppers

Current local craft brews include Barrio Brewing (Tucson), Borderlands (Tucson), Four Peaks (Tempe), Mother Road (Flagstaff), Mudshark (Lake Havasu), Oak Creek (Sedona), and Sleepy Dog (Tempe). And, while selections will rotate, Curcio’s priority is keeping the majority of options local.

Curcio also believes in the importance of giving back to the community and has consciously decided to put the majority of zpizza’s marketing and advertising budget into sponsorships for local programs.

“I needed to find a place that I’d be proud bringing my own family to,” says Curcio, “We’re about community here. I want people to come in and enjoy themselves.”

Zpizza is open from Sunday to Thursday, 11am to 10pm and Friday/Saturday from 11am to midnight.
