Whiskey Del Bac to Release its Limited-Run ‘Frontera’

February 16, 2024
By Matt Sterner

There are only 1,200 bottles nationwide.

For those fond of whiskey with a honey and oak finish, you’re in for a treat.

On Saturday, February 24, Whiskey Del Bac — the Tucson-based distillery known for its award-winning American single malts — will be selling its annual limited-release, Frontera.

“We take Whiskey Del Bac Classic American Single Malt Whiskey originally aged in new American White Oak, then finish it in Pedro Ximénez Sherry botas,” said Janna Hoffman of Whiskey Del Bac. “This American Single Malt is named after the medieval city, Jerez de la Frontera, which sits on what was once the edge of Spain and is known as the world capital of sherry wine.”

Each has an ABV of 48.5% and is 97 proof. One sip and it’ll have you saying “Have mercy” faster than Uncle Jesse can strike up the band in “Full House” — Jesse and the Rippers.

On the nose, you may find raisin, walnut, and crushed red grape skin. On the the palate, you may taste heavy vanilla, and stone fruits, followed by bright acidity, finishing with lingering honey, oak, and leather.

Important reminder: There are only 1,200 bottles nationwide.

Frontera was just bottled this past month so be sure to bookmark the online store so you can grab a bottle on Saturday, February 24. Oh, and if you’re a Whiskey Club Member you’ll have access to it earlier on Monday, February 19.

In January of this year, Whiskey Del Bac’s Whiskey Club launched.

One of the special member-only events the Whiskey Del Bac team has started is free Sensory Classes, which members get to sample straight from the barrel as it is being harvested. So far, there are four classes set for this year.

If you’re a Tucson Foodie Insider, keep an eye out in the member app because an upcoming perk associated with the Whiskey Club is coming soon.
