Meatless Monday is a new Tucson Foodie series featuring one locally available vegan meal every Monday.

In the land of plant-based burgers, Tucson offers several scrumptious selections. Today, we’ll focus on the Green Chile Burger from downtown plant-based eatery Urban Fresh.

The half-pound burger features a baked patty made of tofu, mushrooms, flax, and panko. The patty is adorned with lettuce, onion, tomato, avocado, and green chile on a sesame seed bun.

Although the patty doesn’t taste like beef, appreciate it as its own thing and you’ll love it. The exceptionally fresh lettuce is grown only three miles away at Merchant’s Garden. The green chile is roasted for an earthy flavor that puts the canned chiles of chain burgers to shame.

Grab a Green Chile Burger at Urban Fresh at 73 E. Pennington St. For more information, call (520) 792-9355 or visit urbanfreshtucson.com.
