Modern Riffs introduces cocktails with brighter profiles, such as the Chilcano Maracuyá with pisco, passionfruit, lime and ginger beer, and the hibiscus-laced Hugo Rose with applejack, Irish rose gin and lemon. Guests can also order tea and small snacks during daytime service.

Bubba-Que Smokehouse BBQ and Tex-Mex Catering (Photo by Jackie Tran)

Bubba-Que Smokehouse BBQ and Tex-Mex Catering

5005 South Campbell AvenueSouth Side

Bubba-Que Smokehouse BBQ and Tex-Mex Catering opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant on May 2. Owner Benjamin Levine took over the business in 2020 from original owner Rich Park, who launched the food truck in 2010. Levine built his barbecue skills through Park's mentorship, and the move to a permanent location allows the restaurant to lower its menu prices compared to the food truck's pricing. The restaurant seats 120 guests and blends Tucson's Mexican food traditions with classic Texas barbecue.

Share a bowl of queso dip for a Tex-Mex experience. Dino ribs sell out within a few hours most days, so arrive early if that's the goal. Round out the plate with pulled pork, brisket, collard greens, and their baked beans.

Furthermore, customers can choose their own steak at the butcher shop and walk through the connecting door into the restaurant, where the cooks will grill the steak as requested.

“We will greet you, we will ask you how you would like your steak cooked (medium rare is best), we will offer a side of beans and tortilla, and everything includes chiltepín salsa and lime,” said Jason Scott, who helped open the restaurant.

Signature items include Agua Prieta-style burritos, grilled burgers, and other house specialties cooked over open flame. The carne asada comes simply with cabbage on the inside, while the lime and salsa arrive on the side. The burger patties are blended in house with 100% brisket.
