#WeeklyDish (No. 33): Taco Yaqui at Aqui Con El Nene

Simple street tacos with cilantro, onion, and lime are enough for nirvana. Inconspicuous taco truck and tent Aqui Con El Nene excels at such tacos with its mesquite-grilled meats. For something more extravagant however, order the Taco Yaqui.

The two-tortilla taco is topped with a roasted green chile, mesquite-grilled carne asada, sliced mushrooms, stringy white cheese, and crumbled bacon with a grilled Mexican green onion.

While the massive taco is an indulgence of its own, it needs help from the salsa bar. The selection is wide with salsas, avocado crema, pickled veggies, and more — include as least one acidic element such as lime or red salsa to help brighten the heavy dish.

If you can’t handle the drier grilled exterior of the bulbous Mexican green onion, that’s fine — just make sure to savor the soft, sweet onion flesh inside. A dash of salt helps.
