Over a year ago, the folks at Caps & Corks signed a lease for a sunny new watering hole going in at Sol Block (formerly Solot Plaza). Owners Ty, Elyse, Tad, and Dulce Hammett were intentional about choosing Sol Block and The Sunshine Mile as the location for their venture, The Broadway Beer & Wine Bar.

“We always thought this area needed more businesses like this,” said Elyse. “So, when the Sunshine Mile redevelopment started materializing we knew we had to get in there.”
Now, the time has finally come! After at least one soft opening experience for the team, The Broadway at 2559 E. Broadway Blvd. is hosting a Grand Opening at noon on Saturday, November 9.

Grand Opening Weekend

The Broadway, which is smack dab next to Rocco’s Little Chicago, will be the Hammett family’s second foray into the Tucson bar scene. The intention is for this new location to have its own unique feel — to be a part of the Caps & Corks family, but not a twin.
The new space has a mid-century vibe in line with the historic plaza. The footprint of The Broadway Beer & Wine Bar measures about 2500 square feet and fresh air lovers can hang out on the atrium-style covered patio.
The fridge section isn’t as large as what’s found inside Caps & Corks, but The Broadway will feature at least 30 beer taps, including a few permanent Arizona brewery taps, and a few taps of wine to enjoy by the glass.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
