Chef Scott Girod brings Anello's wood-fired style to Tucson Doobie dinner Aug. 30

Aug 20, 20262 min read

Tucson Doobie brings its infused dinner series back with a five-course feast presented by Prime Leaf Dispensary. This time, the club taps Anello chef-owner Scott Girod for a wood-fired evening on Sunday, Aug. 30. Doors open at 6 p.m. The location is private and near 4th Avenue; ticket holders receive the address by email. Tickets are $85 plus tax and gratuity and are available only to Tucson Doobie members. First-timers can add a first-month membership for $19 at checkout. Purchase here.

Girod opened Anello in Tucson's Warehouse Arts District after studying pizza-making in Naples and spending four years cooking under James Beard Award-winning pizzaiolo Chris Bianco, including time running the Bianco kitchen in Tucson. His restaurant uses a wood-fired oven and local organic produce to highlight what's in season in the Sonoran Desert. The Aug. 30 dinner showcases Girod in a private setting, where he builds a five-course menu rooted in that same wood-fired, produce-forward philosophy. For more on Anello and Girod's approach, read his interview here.

What's on the menu

The five-course menu draws on seasonal Sonoran ingredients and Girod's wood-fired technique, from a sourdough opener to a honey milk cake dessert.

  • Sourdough Cracker: Sourdough cracker, tomatillo jam, Fior di Capra chèvre, herbs

  • Seasonal Salad: Cucumber, black and white sesame, parsley, cucumber citronette

  • Seasonal Vegetables: Southwinds Farms patty pan squash, oven fried, fresh mint, chiltepin, red wine garlic confit

  • Pizza: AZ K4 beef or pork barbacoa, caciocavallo cheese, red spring onion

  • Dessert: Candied pepitas, white chocolate whipped cream, Dos Manos honey milk cake

What's included

Every ticket covers the five-course dinner, mocktails, sponsor interactions, a gift bag to take home, and the opportunity to sample various Prime Leaf Dispensary products throughout the evening. Prime Leaf Dispensary, the event's presenting sponsor, continues to support the local cannabis community through experiences that connect consumers with food, culture, and community. Prime Leaf has two locations in Tucson.

@Bktacos made @Nytimes’ list of 41 standout Mexican restaurants across the country. Published Aug. 13, the list was compiled by reporters, editors and photographers who spent more than a year traveling the U.S.

BK was the only Tucson restaurant included. Writer Bill Esparza highlighted its combination of Sonora-style carne asada and Sonoran hot dogs, a pairing he noted is distinct to Arizona. Benjamin and Karel Galaz, originally from Nacozari, Sonora, opened the restaurant in 1994.

Congratulations, @bktacos!🎉
