Casa Vera opens Aug. 12 at 7265 N. La Cholla Blvd., bringing a regional Mexican concept to the northwest Tucson address that previously housed Tamarind. The restaurant seats 200 guests inside a 7,000-square-foot space, with a large patio available for outdoor dining. Hours will run 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
Owners Jordan Fuller and Emma Vera drew the restaurant's name from their family history, said Wendy Fuller, who manages marketing with Casa Vera. Locals may recognize the family from Guadalajara Original Grill. The concept centers on Mexican cooking from different regional traditions, and the design takes its cues from an old-world hacienda aesthetic the team describes as warm, timeless, and rooted in heritage.
A chef with fine dining roots
Executive chef Eliana Hernandez brings serious kitchen credentials to Casa Vera. Hernandez previously served as chef de cuisine at PY Steakhouse at Casino Del Sol, one of Southern Arizona's most decorated fine dining restaurants. At Casa Vera, Hernandez will apply that experience to a menu rooted in the regional cooking traditions of Mexico. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available.
What's on the menu
The opening menu highlights ingredients and techniques drawn from across Mexico, with tableside salsa service as one of the first things guests encounter.
Appetizers anchor the early part of the meal with several shareable formats. The Hacienda Board arrives with rotating carnes, quesos, escabeche, preserves, and charred bolillo. Scallop Mini Tostadas combine guacamole, seared scallops, chipotle crema, and salsa negra. Ceviche de Camarones brings shrimp with avocado, cucumber, jalapeño, tomato, cilantro, achiote dressing, and tostadas.
Two entrées showcase Hernandez's range. The Lobster Tetelas plate features blue and yellow corn masa triangles filled with Oaxacan cheese and sauteed lobster, served in a chipotle sauce with achiote oil. The Hojaldrado presents a beef picadillo-stuffed poblano alongside apple, pomegranate, and walnut cream sauce with cilantro flakes, a dish that references the walnut-cream chile en nogada tradition from central Mexico.
The cocktail list highlights a Mezcalita and a Ginger Margarita at launch.
A space built by Tucson hands
"When walking in you will see beautiful mural is in our sealing and around the restaurant by local artist Ignacio Garcia," Wendy said. "We have customized molding wood handcrafted by the Lost Barrio Gallery in Tucson[...], imported cantera from Jalisco, hand-plastered walls, all drawn on Old World hacienda that felt inline with heritage."
The goal was to build a space that felt like a home: warm, inviting, and rich with history.
