Small bites, small pours, and big winners!
Six Tucson chefs are set to square off during this year’s Taps & Tapa’s beer pairing event at Button Brew House, 6800 North Camino Martin #160.
It’s all going down on Saturday, March 22 at 3 p.m. Six chefs will prepare tapas paired with six of Button Brew House’s beers, and then at 5:30 p.m., folks can cast their votes before the winners are announced at 6 p.m.

“Bringing together local businesses, food lovers, and craft beer enthusiasts is what makes our culinary community so special,” said Josh Bishop, owner at Fork & Fire Smoke House & Taproom. “We’re thrilled to stand alongside other talented chefs and share a dish that embodies the heart of Arizona’s food scene.”
To share a little sneak peek of what to expect from Fork & Fire — just one of the six local competitors — they’re serving burnt ends and shrimp with a whiskey barbecue sauce, which will be paired with Button’s Tucson Traveller American blonde ale.
“The barbecue sauce features whiskey from Tucson’s own Whiskey Del Bac Distillery, ensuring that every bite celebrates the best of our region,” Bishop added.
A panel of judges will also determine winners, with categories including Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice.
Tickets are $45 per person (only 50 are available). That grants you one vote, six tapas, and six five-ounce beers.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
