After nearly 100 years, the iconic Midtown boutique hotel, Arizona Inn, is on the market.
The resort — opened in December 1930 — has been owned and operated by the family of founder Isabella Greenway, Arizona’s first congresswoman. Earlier this week, JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group announced that it “has been retained to market the sale.”
“We’re seeking a buyer who recognizes the Arizona Inn’s historical significance to Tucson and its surrounding community and is committed to preserving its legacy while thoughtfully enhancing its potential,” said Matt Riley, the Senior Director over at JLL.
Over the years, the Arizona Inn has been a go-to for many folks in the city, but the resort has also lured in celebrities from the past — Katharine Hepburn and Clark Gable, to name just a couple.
The property is approximately 14 acres and has around 5,000 square feet of event space and amenities, including the Audubon Bar & Patio, the main dining room, a heated outdoor pool, clay tennis courts, croquet lawns, saunas, and complimentary bicycles.
“The resort represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Arizona’s history while its prime location, coupled with the strong demand fundamentals of the surrounding lodging market, positions the asset for continued success,” Riley added.
As mentioned earlier, Isabella Greenway was Arizona’s first-ever congresswoman. She was also a bridesmaid at Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt’s wedding.
In the 1920s, Greenway started a pretty successful business named the Arizona Hut, which employed World War I veterans to build furniture.
During the Great Depression, she opened the Arizona Inn in Tucson — when the population was around 32,000. To this day, the Inn still has some of the furniture built by veterans at the Arizona Hut.
It wasn’t an easy decision to make — putting Arizona Inn on the market — but the family will be rather choosy when it comes to settling on new ownership. They’re seeking a buyer “who will honor the property’s rich heritage while unlocking its future potential.”
Arizona Inn is located at 2200 E. Elm St. For more information and for hours of operation, call (520) 325-1541 or visit arizonainn.com. Wanna own the historic resort? Learn more at us.jll.com.
