The mega-popular Japanese discount store that took the Foothills by storm — opening its first Tucson location just a few months ago — is coming soon to the east side of town.
Daiso will open a second store near the corner of East 22nd Street and South Harrison Road, moving into the former Dress Barn at 9650 E. 22nd St.
The Daiso folks are still in the early stages of opening the new location out east, so there’s no official opening date just yet.

Daiso offers several food and snack items on its shelves.
Popular items found at other stores in the past include Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ Ramen, Pizza Pretz (biscuits made by the same company that makes Pocky), and Glico Caplico Mini — a candy treat that tastes like an ice cream cone.
The snack selection rotates, giving you reasons to stop by often.
Back in August of this year, Daiso opened in the Ventana Village Shopping Center, 6884 E. Sunrise Dr. Much like the grand opening of Sweet Tomatoes on Broadway Boulevard, people were lined up by the hundreds, eagerly waiting to be one of the first to step foot inside.
“Arizona-based Daiso customers have shown us through our online business and social media their desire for us to have more stores within the state, influencing our immediate growth strategy in this region,” said John Clarke, Chief Development Officer for Daiso USA.
Stay tuned for an official or estimated Grand Opening date.
The new Daiso location will be at 9650 E. 22nd St. The Foothills location is at 6884 E. Sunrise Dr. #150. For more information, visit daisous.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
