Fourth Avenue will gain another beer-focused bar by the end of December.
Cafe Passe, 415 N. 4th Ave., is converting its 650-square-foot back room into Bar Passe, inspired by European dive bars.
Formerly Wooden Tooth Records, the space now features blue walls, vintage French armchairs and sofas, and accents of copper, brass, and stainless steel. The dimly lit room’s patio door will remain open to bring in outdoor light.
The 28-foot copper bar, made with reclaimed wood from the Green Valley Pecan Company barn, includes outlets and USB ports.
“I want people studying here,” said Kade Mislinski, assistant director of creative endeavors with Cafe Passe.
Art will be displayed in gold leaf frames to help the vibe feel like an old castle, Mislinski said.
The full bar will include six taps of local beer and an additional six taps of beers that have been made for hundreds of years such as Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, so there will be less of a focus on IPAs.
Although beer is the focus, a curated list of whiskeys will be available since “Europeans love American whiskeys and Scotch,” Mislinski said.
Bar Passe will also offer Millie’s Pierogi, pretzels, and sausages custom-made by Kent Koecheler at The Sausage Shop Meat Market & Deli.
Flights of sausages and beer will also be available, inspired by similar trending offerings in Austin and San Francisco, Mislinski said.
Operating hours will be noon – 2 a.m. daily.
