Mark your calendars! Plans are underway for the Town of Sahuarita‘s most anticipated annual event — Fiesta Sahuarita — on Saturday, April 6 from 2 – 8 p.m. at Anamax Park. The fiesta marks the 30th anniversary of the Town of Sahuarita and promises fun for all ages and free admission.
Fun fact: Since 2004, the Town of Sahuarita has grown from 1,700 to more than 38,000 residents.

“Fiesta Sahuarita is the perfect opportunity to celebrate this milestone with our residents, families, and friends,” said Tom Murphy, Mayor of Sahuarita. “It is a chance for us to revel in the rich diversity and vibrant culture of our community as we come together to enjoy music, food, arts, and entertainment against the stunning backdrop of Anamax Park.”
This year’s event will have a variety of activities and attractions to entertain guests of all ages, seasoned with the flavors of Southern Arizona. There’s going to be a Kids Zone for the youngsters, beer for adults, food for all, and live music for anyone lookin’ to get their boogie on.

Highlights of Fiesta Sahuarita Include:
- Live Performances: local dance performance from Ballet Folklorico Los Mextucaz and Ballet Continental, and live music from Mark Miller Band, and Sophia Rankin & The Sound.
- Kids Zone: Free carnival rides, water inflatables, rock wall, zip line, and Children’s Entrepreneur Market
- Food and Beverage Vendors: Chick-fil-A, Real Fruit Raspados, Family Joint Pizzeria, The Cookie Jar, Taco’Queta, Harbottle Brewing Company, Coppermine Brewing Company, and other local vendors.
- Family-Friendly Activities: drone show, event scavenger hunt, coloring book and t-shirt giveaway, and more.
Those who wish to be a vendor at Fiesta Sahuarita can apply online.
Signature events like Fiesta Sahuarita are made possible, in part, by contributions from the Town of Sahuarita sponsors.
“Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors. residents, and dedicated staff,” said Devin Stalder, Director of Sahuarita Parks and Recreation, “we are aiming to make this 30th-anniversary celebration an unforgettable experience for our community as we host our biggest Fiesta Sahuarita yet!”
Some of the local organizations currently sponsoring include Desert Husky, Northwest Medical Center, KGVY Radio, Helping Hands Behavior Therapy, Renewal by Andersen, Sonoran Foot and Ankle Institute, Madera Construction and Remodeling, Rancho Sahuarita, VCA Valley Animal Hospital of Sahuarita, Green Valley News, Global Water Resources, and others.

“With all-new features, and nearly double the vendors and attractions, we hope you will join us for Fiesta Sahuarita 2024,” Stalder added.
Fiesta Sahuarita is a unique opportunity to experience the vast cultural tapestry of Sahuarita – and it only comes around once a year. Don’t miss it!
Fiesta Sahuarita will be located at Anamax Park, 17501 S Camino De Las Quintas in Sahuarita. For more information, visit sahuaritaparksandrec.org.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
