Friday Fish Fry: 20+ Spots serving Fish & Chips in Tucson

Feb 25, 20238 min read

It’s that time of year when regardless of the reasoning, people start to ask, “Where can I get good fish and chips in Tucson?” and “Who has a Fish Fry on Fridays?”

Just in time for Good Friday, we have compiled a list of local places with some great fish and chips options.

Check out some of the places we’ve gathered, or let us know about your favorite spot for this pub classic.

The Canyon’s Crown Restaurant & Pub

6958 E. Tanque Verde Rd.

Canyon’s Crown meets all your Great Britain Pub needs, so it is apropos that they are first on the list. They serve a beer-battered cod, with a one or two-piece option, you can also add a grilled shrimp skewer for $6.50 more. They do not have a Fish Friday per se, however, go during happy hour for some discounted drinks and apps.

For more information, visit canyonscrown.com.

Crispy’s Fish N Chips

736 E. Fort Lowell Rd.

Fish & Chips at Crispy’s Fish N Chips (Photo by C.J. Hamm)

Quaint little counter service restaurant, Crispy’s offers both white fish as well as catfish on its menu. The fish is breaded in a very well-seasoned cracker crust and served with steak fries and tartar sauce. Any other sauces, hushpuppies, coleslaw, or potato salad are on you to customize your Crispy’s experience. Also note, they have some big, reasonably priced family meals.

For more information, visit crispysfishnchips.com.

The Dutch – DAM Good Food

5340 E. Broadway Blvd.

They call their fish and chip option Lekkerbekje, which is (essentially) fish and chips in Dutch. Chef Marcus is beer battering whiting fish, served with your standard accouterments. While they do not have a fish and chips special on Fridays, they do have a “catch of the day” special every Friday.

For more information, visit thedutchtucson.com.

Ermanos Bar

220 N. Fourth Ave.

Ermanos always puts a delicious touch on its bar classics. One of the few non-cod options, the fish and chips is no exception! They are frying up crispy Alaskan pollock, served with fries, slaw, and tartar sauce. They have a number of other seafood options as well, such as a lobster roll, shrimp culichi, and a salmon dish.

For more information, visit ermanosbrew.com.

Frog & Firkin

874 E. University Blvd.

Self-proclaimed “English Style Pub” is frying up beer-battered cod and serving it with garlic rosemary shoestring fries and a side salad. No fish fry, but Fridays are always a celebration at this ol’ University of Arizona haunt in the heart of Main Gate Square.

For more information, visit frogandfirkin.com.

Hops Sports Grill

120 S. Houghton Rd. #174

New England-themed sports bar and grill on the far east side offers beer-battered “cawd” served with fries and housemade tarter sauce. Their fish fry Fridays have a huge five-piece portion or a grilled option on special.

HUB Restaurant & Ice Creamery

Nestled in the heart of downtown Tucson, HUB Restaurant’s fish and chips, which is beer-battered wild Alaskan cod, comes paired with a side of tartar sauce, fries, and coleslaw.

Kappy’s

2190 N. Wilmot Rd.

A post shared by thorn (@3panman)

This tucked away bar and restaurant has been slinging fish fries since the early ’80s. The tradition lives on every week, with beer-battered cod, fries, coleslaw, and garlic toast. Fish and chips is not on the regular menu, so make note, it’s only poppin’ like fish grease on Fridays.

For more information, visit kappystucson.com.

Kingfisher

2564 E. Grant Rd.

Being the long-time “King” of Tucson seafood restaurants, of course, the Fisher made our list. They are serving up a classic fish and chips with Alaskan cod, “big” fries, coleslaw, and all the add-ons. The real beauty about Kingfisher, while practicing pescetarianism, is the copious amount of seafood options.

For more information, visit kingfishertucson.com.

Monsoons Tap & Grill

6781 N. Thornydale Rd. #261

Family-friendly and fun grill and taproom located in the Northpointe Village Center is serving wild-caught Alaskan cod “fried to perfection in tempura beer batter, served with Irene’s coleslaw and our homestyle French fries,” each and every day. They are also willing to switch out the slaw for those who may prefer another side with their fish.

Mulligans

Like a little whiskey with your fish and chips? Mulligans on the east side has cultivated one of the city’s biggest and most versatile whiskey lists. I digress, this is about the fish basket! Wild-caught Alaskan cod is hand-battered in a housemade beer batter and served with shoestring french fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. On Fridays, there is a free refill for their fish Friday special.

For more information, visit mulliganstucson.com.

Nevada Smith’s Saloon

1175 W. Miracle Mile

Known more for its saloon vibe and steak nights, Nevada Smith’s makes the list by being one of only two old-school, all-you-can-eat (AYCE), Friday Fish fries we could find. On Fridays only, they are doing the AYCE for $8! They also offer oysters on the half-shell, but rest assured, they go fast!

For more information, visit nevadasmithssaloon.com.

Noble Hops

1335 W. Lambert Ln. (Oro Valley) • 445 S. Alvernon Way (Reid Park)

Noble Hops touts itself as “Tucson’s First Gastropub”. Well, what self-respecting gastropub doesn’t provide a solid fish and chips? The noble one provides just that at both its original Oro Valley as well as its newer mid-town location.

For more information, visit noblehops.com.

The Parish

6453 N. Oracle Rd.

The Parish, serving chef-driven Southern cuisine is offering up a N’Awlin-style fish and chips on its regular menu. This version is Abita beer-battered Mississippi catfish, Crystal hot sauce, and hand-cut fries. Add an order of hushpuppies and cast-iron cornbread and you are in soul food heaven!

Saguaro Corners Restaurant & Bar

3750 E. Old Spanish Trail

Wild-caught Alaskan cod, battered to order in a beer and tempura batter, served with hand-cut fries, house coleslaw, caper tartar sauce, and lemons — not to mention the views of the Rincon Mountains and Saguaro National Park East.

Sue’s Fish & Chips

2500 S. Fourth Ave.

The sign on the menu when you walk to the counter exclaims: “One bite & we gotcha!”. Have to love the bravado of this small yet colorful seafood spot. Their fish comes in combos with an option of pairing the cracker-breaded white fish with shrimp, scallops, or oysters, served with crinkle-cut fries and Sue’s Sauce (A hot sauce-laden take on a cocktail sauce).

For more information, visit suesfishandchips.com.

Thirsty’s Neighborhood Grill

2422 N. Pantano Rd.

Thirsty’s is the only place on the list that has both fish and chips on its regular menu and an all-you-can-eat fish fry on Fridays. Atlantic cod beer-battered and served with fries, coleslaw, and garlic toast.

For more information, follow Thirsty’s on Facebook.

Trident Grill

Multiple Locations

Inspired by Poseidon’s three-pronged spear, Navy SEALs, and sports, Trident has garnered a reputation for providing great East Coast seafood dishes to Tucson. The fish and chips is no exception. Alaskan beer-battered cod, with all the fixin’s is offered up in a two and three-piece option. Add a cup of their famous clam chowder and you got yourself a really delicious way to stray from meat for the day.

Union Public House

Beer-battered Arctic cod, malt tarter sauce, fresh coleslaw, now that’s a Union! Enjoy your fish and chips in the beautiful gastropub ambiance located in St. Phillips Plaza, and don’t forget to peruse the huge whiskey list, unless, of course, you gave that up for lent.

Wildflower

Sam Fox’s flagship restaurant is still going strong in the Casas Adobes shopping center. They offer up a classic take on fish and chips on the regular menu, as well as many other seafood options, including “catch of the day” specials on Fridays.

Between the pools, hot spring and cold plunge, water slide, yoga, live music, complimentary bike rentals, and their nostalgic “Summer Rewind” experience, there was always something to do. We never left the resort.

The highlight at their on-site restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, was the Pollo Con Rajas - perfectly cooked chicken over a rich creamed poblano, onion, and corn mestizaje. And if you’re at their Sundance Café for breakfast, get the pozole. It’s made from a family recipe that became such a guest favorite it earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
