The local chocolate shop, Monsoon Chocolate, has won honors in the past and now they’re once again in the running to win again at this year’s Good Food Awards. The awards recognize American food and beverage producers who demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and culinary excellence.
Monsoon Chocolate is nominated in three different categories: Snacks, Chocolate, and Confections.
Snacks Category

In the Snacks category, their Coconut Macaroons Covered in Dark Chocolate got the nod. These bite-sized delights are gluten-free, made with organic coconut, draped in a dark chocolate blend, and then sprinkled with toasted coconut.
Chocolate Category

The Sonoran Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Bar is nominated in the Chocolate category. The unrefined, solar-dried sea salt that garnishes this chocolate bar is rich in minerals and trace elements, giving it a distinctive depth of flavor and pleasing texture. Harvested from a remote and pristine estuary where the Sonoran Desert meets the Sea of Cortez, the salt bears traces of its journey down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
Confections Category

The final nomination is the Reposado Sweet Orange Margarita Bon Bon, which is named after the Rincon Mountains to the east of our factory, this collection features agave-based spirits and flavors characteristic of our region.
The Good Food Awards Ceremony is happening on April 29 from 5 – 8 p.m. in Portland, Oregon. Usually, more than 2,000 entries from all 50 states are submitted each year and just a few come out on top.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
