Eastside diner Jethro’s Cafe announced plans to expand with a tavern, changing the business name to Jethro’s Cafe & Tavern.
The restaurant at 8735 E. Broadway Blvd. will expand into the space next door, which previously held Head East Smoke Shop. The expansion will add 1,200 square feet to the 3,000-square-foot restaurant.
“It’ll be a friendly warm neighborhood place to gather,” said Greg Seader, owner at Jethro’s.
A Tucson native, Seader was one of the first chefs at the La Paloma Resort. He opened Jethro’s 13 years ago as a place to eat for a reasonable price. With the tavern expansion and addition of a dinner menu, the goal remains the same.
“I don’t believe in expensive food,” Seader said.
However, he also doesn’t believe in sacrificing quality.
“Just about everything in the restaurant is scratch cooking,” Seader said. “And large portions. Resort food without resort portions and prices.”
Entrees will range from $13 to $15 with options such as seafood specials with beurre blanc. Drink prices will also be affordable, with domestic pints for $3, craft beer and well drinks for $4, and premium drinks for $6.
While the last bit of construction remains, Seader expects the tavern to open in early December.
Operating hours will be 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
