500 N. Fourth Ave. has seen a couple of changes in the last few years, and with each alteration comes a totally different concept.
Imagine getting a mighty whiff of delicious quesabirria while cruising around the Avenue, or perhaps being greeted by the heavenly aromatics of Sonoran tacos while attempting to parallel park your vehicle. That is what’s on the horizon for the corner of Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street.

The local food truck La Yaquesita Tacos is opening a new location in the space that most recently housed L Station Cafe & Bar.
One of the new features of the Fourth Avenue location is that it’ll be open throughout the day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So, expect to find a lot of the familiar dishes like cabeza tacos, along with a few unique-to-the-location items, too.
I’m working on a Mexican pasta — maybe a chicken chipotle pasta,” said chef Miguel Rodriguez, owner of La Yaquesita. “Also, maybe a couple of soups a day and some gourmet dishes at night.”

Inside the restaurant, there will be about four tables for dine-in and a bar with additional seating, and then outside on the patio, you can expect to find 15 to 20 more tables.
The hours of operation are still in the works, but Rodriguez is thinking 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Monday – Wednesday, from 7 a.m. – midnight Thursday – Saturday.
The original location at 6530 S. Camino de Oeste, near Valencia, is remaining intact as the new restaurant on Fourth Avenue has plans of opening its doors sometime by the end of May 2022.
La Yaquesita Tacos’ new location will be located at 500 N. Fourth Ave. near Opas! Grill and Lindy’s. For more information and any updates on the official opening date, follow La Yaquesita Tacos on Facebook.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
