If you’re unaware of the Watershed Management Group (WMG) located at 1137 N. Dodge Blvd. now’s the time to truly appreciate what the folks behind the scenes do. The non-profit WMG develops community-based solutions to maintain the long-term prosperity of people and the health of the environment — “providing people with the knowledge, skills, and resources for sustainable livelihoods.”

The group is constantly hosting events, too, and from 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 — Family Saturdays, to be exact — their next Living Lab.
The event allows you to taste food that’s actually grown and harvested in the Sonoran Desert. Throughout the two hours, you’ll harvest, prepare, and eat native edible plants. It’s also an event for younger kids because they’ll get to meet WMG’s resident hens, experience stories, and there’s even “song time.”

The activities for older kids and teens include learning real programming skills by coding a digital food forest using scratch and stone carving. All materials will be provided, too.
If you want to attend the Living Lab, make sure you register online beforehand (it’s required).
Living Lab Schedule
- 8 a.m. – Nature activities
- 9:30 a.m. – Song and Story Time
- 11 a.m. – Program Ends

Family Saturdays happen every third Saturday of the month. To keep up with all of the events happening at Watershed Management Group, located at 1137 N. Dodge Blvd., visit watershedmg.org.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
