Aside from the holiday season, the month of March is another time of year folks start freeing up space inside their freezers. We’re talking about National Tamale Day and Tucson Tamale Company is celebrating big time on Thursday, March 23.
“You know we have a passion for tamales,” Tucson Tamale shared. “The only thing better than tamales are free tamales.“

So, on National Tamale Day (March 23), Tucson Tamale is celebrating with a Buy-One-Get-One Frozen Tamale Sale. If you buy three Twin Pack Tamales, you’ll get three Twin Packs for free.
Like all deals and special offers, there are some rules. There’s a limit of three free Twin Packs per customer. Plus, you will be able to substitute single tamales (the total number of free tamales is six whether in Twin Packs or singles).
If you haven’t stopped by the Oracle location lately, you’re in for a treat, which will be open 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on National Tamale Day. Back in 2020, Tucson Tamale opened a retail marketplace at both of its locations, featuring a line-up of more than 100 products. However, the Oracle location has an expansive “Wall of Heat” for those looking to add some literal spice to their lives.

The new market’s items range from local, regional, and international purveyors that were intentionally curated by Tucson Tamale co-founders Todd and Sherry Martin, but the “Wall of Heat” is kept in tip-top shape by Erik Buehler.
“Todd loves hot sauces, and one of the pivot opportunities that the pandemic introduced was a plan to grow that offering as part of a new marketplace concept,” said Buehler.
Right now, you’ll find more than 300 hot sauces on the wall, ranging from tame to incendiary, and this reportedly makes Buehler’s retail hot sauce collection among the largest in Arizona and his palate arguably one of the toughest and most tested in the industry.
Tucson Tamale Company is located at 7286 N. Oracle Rd. and 7159 E. Tanque Verde Rd. For more information, visit tucsontamale.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
