Reforma Weekend Brunch: Bottomless Mimosas, Mexican-Inspired Specialties & Live Entertainment

Putting a unique spin on Mexican food in Tucson, Arizona is a risky venture.

With authentic Sonoran taquerias dotting the landscape – typically with rock-bottom prices – nailing the formula in a more upscale setting is a challenge.

Fortunately, Reforma gets it right.

First, let’s talk ambience. The team behind Reforma spared no expense in creating one of the most unique and beautiful restaurants in town. A picturesque setting in St. Phillips Plaza at River & Campbell, the space features real walnut trim, Spanish tile floors, slick and sleek modern booths, mid-century modern inspired furniture, a copper bar top, and low hanging lighting.

But a great vibe only gets a restaurant so far. Bottomless cocktails can take it much farther. Granted, it’s a single cocktail that’s bottomless during Reforma weekend brunch – the mimosa. “Free flowing mimosas,” in fact, for $15. Of course, you know, there are liquor laws and such, so that only gets you three mimosas, but they’re a penny after the first three. If the bottomless thing isn’t your thing, there’s Bloody Mary’s, Bloody Marias, and Paloma’s, too.

If you’re only planning on eating, a handful of tasty specialties fill the Reforma weekend brunch menu. Two types of Chilaquiles – rojos and verde (red and green) – include a plate of corn tortilla chips, smothered in their respective sauce, before getting topped with queso fresco, eggs, and a lime crema. Tacos de Desayuno offers guests a taco alternative to the ubiquitous breakfast burrito (although there’s that, too). The traditional Mexican classic Huevos Rancheros is available while Mexican-inspired items, such as Horchata French Toast, Breakfast Enchiladas, and the more Spanish-influenced Reforma Fritatta (Monterey Jack, black bean, red pepper, mushroom, onion, and arugula) gently blend cuisine types.

That’s not all. What’s brunch without some entertainment? Both Reforma weekend brunch days include rotating DJs, such as Herm, Big Brother Beats, and others. But, if you’re thinking you don’t need a dance floor with your breakfast burrito, you needn’t worry. Volume is kept pleasantly low and music styles are selected to appeal to a wide audience.

Also, if you have wee ones, bring ’em. Reforma is family friendly, offering a small children’s menu.

Now, vamos.

Reforma Modern Mexican is located at 4310 N. Campbell Ave. in St. Philip’s Plaza at River & Campbell. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. every Sunday. For additional information including hours, contact info, and menu, visit reformatucson.com.

@Talegacoffee at 177 N. Church Ave. transforms into @_Velvetcowboy after 4 pm, bringing cocktails, tapas, disco lights, and a lively bar atmosphere to the same space. The dual concept comes from the team behind Talega Coffee Co., with coffee and scratch-made breakfast and lunch served during the day, followed by happy hour and bar service at night.

Velvet Cowboy’s grand opening is Oct. 16, with upcoming events including drag brunches, DJs, and live music.🪩

“Opening this place feels a little surreal. To now have a space where we can bring together coffee, food, art, booze, and all the weird things we love feels like a reflection of how far we’ve come.” —Tyler Melo
