Whenever we share an article about Eegee’s, there’s at least one person on social media who invites everyone to pay a visit to Slice & Ice at 1905 W. Grant Rd.
There are a few reasons why and one of them is because Ed Irving, owner of Slice & Ice, started creating the original Eegee’s beverages back in 1971 — serving them from a truck. He and Bob Greenburg teamed up to bring the fast-food giant to life, Ed being the “E” and Greenburg representing the “G” in Eegee’s.

They sold the restaurant chain in 2006 and Ed opened up Slice & Ice in 2020, introducing pizza to the mix of sub sandwiches, frosty drinks, and crinkle-cut fries.
Eating on the cheap
If you’re looking for an inexpensive lunch or dinner with a sense of nostalgia, look no further and give Slice & Ice’s Snack Box a whirl. For $7.50 you’re treated to a slice of cheese pizza, which is actually half of their 12-inch pizza, and fries.
If you’re feeling fancy, do what all fancy eaters do and glamorous those fries. They’ve got garlic, hot ranch, pizza, and ranch fries.
This is just one of the many inexpensive menu items available at Slice & Ice. We can talk about the Family Fry Box that’s only $7.50, any of their sandwiches that come in under $10 each, or any of the 12-inch pizzas but we suggest you head in to see it all for yourself.
In other words, just about everything on the menu is under $10 (there’s a 2.5-gallon bucket of gourmet Italian ice for $19.99).
Speaking of their gourmet Italian ice, they’re made with natural ingredients and stray away from artificial coloring. On the menu, you’ll find flavors such as Orange Pineapple, Strawberry Lemonade, Watermelon, a Sweet Tea Ice, and rotating flavors.
Overall, they’ve got 32 flavors (not at once) that they rotate through each month and they’re always asking for requests if you’ve got a specific concoction in mind.

Slice & Ice is located at 1905 W. Grant Rd. For more information, visit sliceandicetucson.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
