The ’90s pop group Smashmouth suggested that we might as well be walkin’ on the sun, but why don’t we just stare at it instead? I mean, stare at it with fancy glasses, of course, so we don’t melt our eyeballs.
This Saturday, October 14, a Solar Eclipse is expected to make an appearance in the sky, and CORBETT’S is hosting a viewing party at 340 N. Sixth Ave.

Locally, we will see about 78% of the Sun covered by the Moon. Here is the Solar Eclipse schedule according to the smart folks at the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium:
- 8:12 a.m. – Partial annular Solar Eclipse begins
- 9:33 a.m. – Max view (time when the maximum amount of the Sun’s disk is covered)
- 11:05 a.m. – Partial annular Solar Eclipse ends
Solar Eclipse Cocktails
For one day only, CORBETT’S will be serving two cocktails from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. So, during and anytime after the Solar Eclipse (until 3 p.m.) check out these cocktails.
Solar Eclipse of the Heart
Think espresso martini with cinnamon and nutmeg

Ring of Fire
Whiskey sour with cinnamon and nutmeg

CORBETT’S is located at 340 N. Sixth Ave. For more information, visit CORBETTSTucson.com.
Solar Eclipse Viewing at the Planetarium
Also, the Planetarium we mentioned just a moment ago is having its own viewing party beginning at 8 a.m. If you’re interested in checking out the sun on campus, head over to 1601 E. University Blvd. and follow Flandrau Science Center on Facebook.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
