It’s time for the 30th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, which is the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona’s biggest yearly drive.

It’s a wonderful benefit for the Community Food Bank and it’s all happening on Saturday, May 14. Historically, the drive has been a huge success and brings in much-needed food donations to stock their local food pantries for summer.
“This Saturday is the biggest food drive of the year,” the Community Food Bank shared on Twitter. “And all you have to do is leave a bag of food by your mailbox.”
It’s really as simple as that. To participate, you’ll need to collect a bag of non-perishable food and then set it out by your mailbox on Saturday so that it can be picked up by your letter carrier.

Other ways to donate
There are more ways to donate, too. For example, if you don’t have anything to bag up and leave outside, you can donate to the Community Food Bank online at donate.communityfoodbank.org.
Want to volunteer?
For those that want to pitch in another way, the Community Food Bank is accepting volunteers to support the drive by signing up to collect food at the post offices. If you’re interested in joining the team, shoot over an email to volunteer@communityfoodbank.org.
In recent news, the Community Food Bank brought back its walk-in services here in Tucson. The move marked an end to drive-thru food distribution, which started nearly two years ago.
“We’re excited to serve our community in a face-to-face, walk-in manner again and we’re working hard to do this safely,” said Robert Ojeda, Chief Program Officer. “Drive-thru food distribution worked for many months, yet it also limits our interactions with people.”

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
