A lot has been happening at the former Brings Funeral Home ever since Owls Club opened its doors back in 2016. A barbershop and other businesses have sprouted up in front of one of downtown Tucson’s best patios, and now there’s a brand-new coffee shop to cure your caffeine cravings.
Earlier this week, Talega Coffee Co. opened up at 236 S. Scott Ave., serving small-batch, specialty craft coffee.

The new shop, which is open 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Tuesday – Sunday, is dedicated to sourcing their beans responsibly, making sure they’re ethical and easy on the environment.
“We are dedicated to our small farmers, ethical practices, and committed to the protection of social and environmental impacts.”

There’s a good amount of seating indoors (at least four to five seating areas including tables) and at least three times the seating outside on the patio shared with Owls Club.
On the menu, they have multiple beverages including an Americano, cortado, cappuccino, cafe latte, double espresso, chai latte, and more. However, if you’re in the market of brewing your own coffee at home, Talego Coffee Co. has you covered. They’re currently selling their own roasts: Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico, and a Latin Blend — all of which are sold online, too.

Talega Coffee Co. is located at 236 S. Scott Ave. For more information, visit talegacoffeeco.com or follow Talega Coffee on Instagram.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
